Prof. Yue Chen studied at Oxford University and Beihang University, and obtained his PhD degree in 2010. Before joining HKU, he was a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Columbia University in the City of New York and a T. S. Kê Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Institute of Metal Research, CAS. His research interests focus on materials physics for electrical and thermal transports, including

  1. Anharmonic phonon-phonon couplings and thermal transport properties in crystalline solids

  2. Developing first-principles interatomic potentials to bridge the gap between electronic and atomistic approaches

  3. Discovering novel material properties under extreme conditions

  4. Alloys, intermetallics, thermoelectrics, and low-dimensional materials

  5. Density functional theory, inelastic neutron scattering, tight-binding approximations, bond-order potential theory, and synchrotron x-ray diffraction

Research Areas

Materials computation, electron and phonon transports, thermoelectric materials, high pressure materials, density functional theory, inelastic neutron scattering, synchrotron x-ray diffraction, and molecular dynamics
