Dr. Min Wang is elected a Fellow of the Chinese Society for Biomaterials (CSBM)

Dr. Min Wang, a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been elected a Fellow (FCSBM) of China’s Chinese Society for Biomaterials (CSBM) in CSBM’s inaugural fellow election conducted in 2023. FCSBM is the highest honor awarded to CSBM members in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the research and development of biomaterials, as well as to CSBM and its activities. CSBM’s Standing Council instituted this award in 2023 and the FCSBM election is held every two years. In its inaugural election, 46 fellows were elected who came from members (CAS Academicians) of Chinese Academy of Sciences, members (CAE Academicians) of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE)’s Fellow of Biomaterials Science and Engineering (FBSE) who are based in China. Dr. Wang was elected FBSE in 2011. The 46 elected fellows were honored in the 2023 Chinese Biomaterials Congress held on Oct. 13 – 15, 2023, in Chongqing, China.

Dr. Wang started biomaterials research in 1991 in London, UK, after he had completed his PhD study at the University of London. He has conducted research in biomaterials and tissue engineering in universities in the UK (1991-1997), Singapore (1997-2002) and Hong Kong (2002-Present). He has conducted seminal research on bioactive ceramic-polymer composites for human hard tissue repair and is recognized internationally as a leader in biomedical composite research; he has performed pioneering research on 3D printing of novel tissue engineering scaffolds; and he has made outstanding contributions to the research of bioceramics, bioactive and protective ceramic coatings, and combination devices. His research and collaboration with the industry have led to world’s first commercialized biomedical composite for clinical use. He currently focuses on 3D/4D/5D printing in tissue engineering for regenerating tissues such as bone, osteochondral tissue, blood vessel, peripheral nerve, gastrointestinal tract and liver. He and his research staff/students have won many awards for research, and he is a fellow (FBSE, FAIMBE, FRSC, etc.) of several professional societies. Dr. Wang has served as a Council Member of Chinese Society for Biomaterials (CSBM), as well as a Committee Member in CSBM’s Committee for Biocomposites, Committee for Regenerative Materials, Committee for Bioceramics and Committee for Nanobiomaterials. Dr. Wang has also served in the Biomaterials Committee of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering and the Surface Engineering of Biomaterials Committee of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.
