HKU Racing has finished the Formula Student UK 2022 Concept Class competition in Silverstone, UK, bringing the Race Tech William Kimberley Award back to Hong Kong.
Formula Student (FS) is Europe's most established educational engineering competition. Backed by industry and high-profile engineers such Patron, Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to develop enterprising and innovative young engineers and encourage more young people to take up a career in engineering. The project usually forms part of a degree-level project and is viewed by the motorsport industry as the standard for engineering graduates to meet, transitioning them from university to the workplace. It is a kite-mark for real-world engineering experience, combining practical engineering experience with soft skills including business planning and project management. The Formula Student UK (FSUK) 2022 competition, organized by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, took place from 6th – 10th July 2022 at the Silverstone Racing circuit, UK.
As our fourth year of joining Formula Student UK, HKU Racing got 4th place in the cost and manufacturing event, 14th place overall and was awarded Race Tech William Kimberley Award. This is the first time for the team to step on the award stage of the event.
Race Tech William Kimberley Award is named after William Kimberley who is the editor-in-chief of Race Tech Magazine, suddenly passed away in 2021. The award is awarded to teams that stand out from the situation of struggling by adversities, such as lack of fund or have to overcome significant engineering obstacles, and demonstrated undisputed will to succeed, embodying the spirit of formula students.
In the academic year of 2021-2022. The project was leaded by So Rick William (Team Captain) (ME); Chiu Kin Ho (Deputy Captain) (ME) and Wong Chi Hang (Technical Director) (ME) with core member Lau King Yin (ME); Chan Chin Kai (ME); Chan Tak Sum (ME); Tsang Chun Pan (ME); Hung Chun Kit (ME); Wong Wing Lung (ME); Li Kwing Chung (ME); Hui Hang Wai (ME) and Cui Junpei (ME). The team supervisors are Dr. Match W.L. Ko (ME), Dr. C.K. Chan (ME), Dr. C.K. Lee (EEE)
Congratulations to all teams participating in this year’s Formula Student UK 2022 Concept Class competition! FSUK 2023 will be a blast, and HKU Racing can’t wait to be driving our race car for the first time.
