Research Assistant Professor
true
Dr. Tongqi Wen is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He obtained his B.S. degree (2014) from Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) and Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering (2019, jointly supervised at Ames National Laboratory, Iowa State University, USA) from NPU. He continued his research as a Distinguished Postdoc at Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study (HKIAS) in City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and joined HKU as a Postdoc in 2021. He is the recipient of the Ross Coffin Purdy Award from the American Ceramic Society in 2021.
Dr. Wen's current research focuses on: (i) AI Materials Scientists: Developing multi-agent systems that integrate large language models with atomistic simulations to automate materials discovery and design. (ii) Designing with Defects: Unraveling the fundamental theories of material defects and harnessing them for the design of high-performance materials. (iii) Next-Gen Atomic Models: Fine-tuning, distilling, and applying foundation atomic models for accurate, scalable simulations across diverse materials.
