How to become a professional engineer in Hong Kong?
The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) establishes the professional standards for the training and certification of engineers in Hong Kong.
Corporate members of the HKIE (MHKIE) are granted the prestigious title of “Ir.” (short for “Engineer”) in recognition of their qualifications.
Both the Hong Kong government and the majority of private companies recognize HKIE membership as the essential credential for professional engineers in the region.
Routes to Corporate Membership of HKIE (MHKIE)
There are three routes to MHKIE, they are
- Formal Training Route (Scheme “A” Training)
- General Experience Route
- Mature Route
The formal training route offers the fastest route to become a MHKIE.
Our graduates are eligible to join the Scheme A training in Mechanical (MCL) Discipline. With some specific courses offered taken, they can also join the Scheme A training in several other disciplines. Further details can be obtained by searching “routes to HKIE membership”.
