The Orientation Session and the buffet dinner of the HKU Master of Science in Engineering programme for the 2024-25 intakes was held successfully on August 30, 2024, Friday at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel.
The event was designated to provide a welcoming and information session to our new-comers of the 4 TPg programme, namely Mechanical Engineering (ME), Innovative Design and Technology (IDT), Building Services Engineering (BSE), and the new programme, Microelectronics Science and Technology (MEST).
During the event, esteemed speakers such as Professor Mingxin Huang, Professor Lixi Huang, Professor Wendi Li and Programme Directors delivered welcoming speeches, providing valuable insights into their respective programs and setting the tone for the evening. One of the highlights of the event is the collaboration between HKU and the Hong Kong Science Park (HKSTP). The consecutive collaboration between HKU ME and HKSTP is set to deepen, enhancing the linkage between academia and the science and technology realm, especially Te HKSTP has widen their scope of the company projects so as to include more and more students from different background to come across with the interdisciplinary knowledge experiences exchange. Honorary guests from the Science Park, including Mr. Raymond Chu, Ms. Grace Lai shared informative details about the Science Park project and its role in fostering innovation and collaboration.
The Engineering Manager – Dr. Scott Chan and the representative of the Innovation Wing centre – Mr. Kyle He also shared their experiences towards the safety issues in the Laboratories and also the functions and related activities available in the Innovation Wing centre respectively.
The program directors also elaborated on the specifics of each program, enlightening attendees on the academic offerings and opportunities available to them. Following Induction section, a buffet had been provided to the attendees for peer-networking and mingling.
The orientation event facilitated student acquaintance and provided a comprehensive understanding of the programmes, laying a strong foundation for their academic journey. In conclusion, the HKU Master of Science orientation session was a success, marked by insightful speeches, engaging discussions which will lead a positive start to the 2024-25 academic year.
