Enrolling in ENGG2202: Engineering Challenges II
Welcome to the 2026/27 Academic Year. As you progress in your engineering studies, this semester offers you the chance to apply textbook principles to real-world applications.
We are thrilled to introduce ENGG2202: Engineering Challenges II, a project-based, free elective course where you put your engineering knowledge into practice on open-ended, real-world challenges.
📚Course Overview
Building on the foundational skills and technical knowledge from your first-year engineering studies, ENGG2202 transitions you from structured, guided tasks to tackling complex challenges as part of a multidisciplinary team. Through active, hands-on learning, you will brainstorm ideas, connect with industry through site visits, and build, test, and refine prototypes through iteration.
💡Project Topics
You will select from project topics addressing modern engineering challenges, including:
- Intelligent Systems for Healthy and Resilient Buildings (Subclass A1/A2)
- Green Innovations for ESG-Driven Sustainable Urban Living (Subclass B1/B2)
- Unmanned Aerial Systems for Safer and Smarter City (Subclass C1/C2)
- Wearable Robotics for Work and Wellness (Subclass D1/D2)
🛠️Core Disciplines Integrated
You will synthesize and apply concepts across key disciplines:
- 🤖 AI & Programming
- ⚙️ Mechanics & Mechatronics
- ⚡ Electrical & Electronic Fundamentals
- 📊 Mathematics & Statistics
🗓️How It Works
- Timeline: A free elective course runs across both semesters with bi-weekly workshops, giving your team sufficient time to develop, test, and refine a meaningful engineering prototype through multiple rounds of iteration.
- Faculty Support: Continuous guidance from course instructors through hands-on active learning activities and regular project meetings.
📋How to Enroll
You can enroll via the Student Information System (SIS) on the HKU Portal during the online course selection period in early August 2026. To review the detailed course selection schedule, please check the Academic Advising and Scholarships Office (AAS) website.
