Professor Min Wang is a full professor at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and currently serves as the Programme Director of HKU’s Medical Engineering Programme. (The Medical Engineering Programme is re-titled as “Biomedical Engineering Programme” starting from the 2018/19 academic year.) He earned BSc (1985) and PhD (1991) degrees, both in Materials Science and Engineering, at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, and University of London, UK, respectively. He was honored in 1985 for “Direct Entrance for Postgraduate Study” at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and in 1987 he was among the first awardees of the Sino-British Friendship Scholarship Scheme Award (SBFSS, PhD Scholarship). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng, 1995, UK) and Chartered Scientist (CSci, 2005, UK). Professor Wang is an elected fellow of professional societies or member of academy in the UK, Hong Kong, USA and internationally (FIMMM, 2001; FIMechE, 2007; FHKIE, 2010; FBSE, 2011; FAIMBE, 2012; WAC Academician, 2013). Before joining HKU in June 2003, he had worked in the University of London (1991-1997, UK), Nanyang Technological University (1997-2002, Singapore) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2002-2003, Hong Kong). He started his academic career in 1997 in Singapore, and he has been a Guest Professor or Adjunct Professor of several universities in mainland China. Since 2000, he and his research staff / students have won many awards at international conferences. He has given many presentations, including more than 150 invited talks, at conferences in various countries. He has also given more than 100 seminars in universities, research institutes or hospitals in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. He has authored / co-authored a large number of research papers as well as many book chapters. His research has focused on biomaterials and tissue engineering and his publications have been widely cited by many other researchers.
Professor Wang has been the Series Editor of Springer Nature’s Springer Series in Biomaterials Science and Engineering books (http://www.springer.com/series/10955) and Editor or Associate Editor of several international journals (Materials Letters, Nano LIFE, Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, etc.). He has been an Editorial Board Member of 18 international printed journals including International Materials Reviews and also several open access (OA) journals including PLOS ONE. He has served as a referee for more than 110 international journals in the fields of materials science and engineering, biomaterials and tissue engineering, physics, chemistry, medicine, dentistry, medical devices, biofabrication, 3D printing, nanoscience, and nanotechnology. He has been Chairman or Organizer of many international conferences and has served in committees of more than 70 international conferences. For service in funding agencies, Professor Wang has been an Overseas Member of the Expert Panel (2003 – 2007) - Project Selection/Awarding Panel for Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering, National Natural Science Foundation of China, a member of the Engineering Panel of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, and a member of the Technology Advisory Panel of the Technology Business Incubation Programme, Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corp. He has also served as a reviewer of research proposals for Singapore’s National Research Foundation, Australian Research Council, Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Education and Research SER, German Research Foundation, Czech Science Foundation, Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment, Italy’s National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes, etc. Professor Wang was Chairman of the Biomedical Division of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and has been a member of Hong Kong’s Engineers Registration Board. He is an Honorary Advisor of Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association (HKMHDIA). He has been a Council Member of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Chinese Society for Biomaterials, Asian Biomaterials Federation, World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers (WACBE) and International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE) and also a member of the ICF-BSE Steering Committee of the International College of Fellows, the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE).
