Most Favorite Teacher Awards 2025-26: Celebrating Teaching Excellence in Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to excellence in both research and teaching, and we take great pride in nurturing a learning environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired. To recognise and celebrate outstanding teaching contributions, we have introduced the annual “Most Favorite Teacher Awards” in 2024-25. Each year, final-year students are invited to vote for their favourite teachers immediately after their capstone project presentations in mid-March, when their four-year learning experience in the programme is still fresh in their minds. This timing ensures that their choices reflect a holistic view of teaching quality across courses, years, and different types of learning activities, from lectures and tutorials to laboratories and project supervision. Based on these student votes, the teaching staff members with the highest scores receive the awards, which were presented at the departmental meeting today.

This year, the awardees are (in alphabetical order of surname):

  • Dr. CK Chan
  • Dr. Marian Choy
  • Prof. Mingxin Huang
  • Dr. Match Ko
  • Prof. Alan Tsang
  • Prof. Jiawei Zhou

The recipients were recognised not only for their clear and rigorous delivery of course content, but also for their enthusiasm, approachability, and sustained efforts to support students’ learning and growth. The “Most Favorite Teacher Awards” are entirely student-driven, making them a powerful reflection of how our teaching is perceived and valued by those who experience it most directly. They highlight our colleagues’ dedication to high-quality teaching, their care for students’ academic and personal development, and their commitment to creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment. At the same time, these awards send a clear message to the public and our stakeholders: alongside our strong research performance, innovation, and global impact, the Department of Mechanical Engineering places equal emphasis on teaching excellence, student success, and the holistic education of the next generation of engineers.
